Whisky Bar
The Priory Hotel is in the heart of the Highlands of Scotland, and is very close to some world famous Whisky Distilleries.
While we carry a great selction of Scottish malts from the peaty tasting island malts, to the more gentle Speyside offerings, our aim over the next year or so is to extend our range to eventually concentrate our offering on our more local distilleries, while still keeping the old favourites from around the country. Glenmorangie, Dalmore, Tomatin and the one that is only 3 miles from our doors, the Ord distillery, are our recommended local choices for you to enjoy. While we cannot have every one of the whiskies that our local distilleries produce, we will try to build up a broad cross-section of the whiskies on offer at all four local distilleries.
We have regular choice of special offer Malts of the Month in our lounge bar.
What is Malt Whisky : Malt whisky is whisky made from a fermented mash consisting primarily of malted barley. If the product is made exclusively at a single distillery (along with other restrictions), it is typically called a single malt whisky. Although whisky can be made using other malted grains besides barley, those versions are not called malt whisky.
Despite what some may say, there is no right or wrong way to have your malt, although adding anything but ice or water is definitely taboo!!! We have two bars in the Priory, and our staff will be happy to help you to choose from our large choice of malts. Malt whisky is made to be sipped, swirled and enjoyed at a leisurely pace to allow your taste buds to get the full flavours in malt whisky.
This is not just a Whisky bar though, we also serve some great gins, local beers and everything else you would expect in a good Scottish bar.
